The Bourke St Mall sits between Swanston and Elizabeth streets and is one of the main shopping areas in Melbourne. You will find major departments stores along with hundreds of other shops to choose from. Some of the most interesting places are often found in the city's laneways and alleyways. I checked into a dorm and had to throw away old guests dirty towels, etc. When I found dirty underwear, bloody tissues, old beer cans and milk cartons next to the bed and asked reception to clean it she wasn't apologetic and just annoyed. Also, they're only allowed to half fill rooms because of covid but were overfilling them anyways. Some long term people were nice but mostly unfriendly. USA, Female, 25-30 The hostel is ok but BE AWARE the reception runs a SCAM scheme where they will PRESSURE YOU TO BUY a buss pass, Fraser Island or Whitsunday tours. They tell you it's always sold out and magically it's available. They are affiliated to Happy Travels. They take advantage of you because your a backpacker and your guard is down.
